Introductory Classical Division

Pre-Ballet Students

Pre-Ballet
Students from the age of 4 who have had little or no previous dance related study. Instruction is designed to gently introduce stretching, rhythmic exercises and easy ballet steps for children to learn to enjoy dancing. 1-2 classes recommended

Pre-Ballet Levels 1, 2, 3
Students develop musicality and coordination. They also learn stretching and strength-building exercises. At the end of Ballet 3, the student will be prepared for continuation in the open program or will be accepted into the Professional Prep Division (Levels 4-8)

Professional Prep Division

Advanced Students at Barre

Five progressive levels of achievement are designed to gradually increase the dancer’s technique and stamina in accordance with their physical and emotional development. All new students must audition for placement in this program. Progress reports are given to each pro-prep student twice a year. Students are required to take the recommended number of classes, according to level.

  • Ballet 4 2-3 Pre-intermediate level ballet classes with one choice of elective and optional pre-pointe class.

  • Ballet 5 3-4 Intermediate level ballet classes with 1 or 2 beginning pointe class(es) and choice of one elective. Minimum 4 classes and at least 1 elective.

  • Ballet 6 3-5 Pre-advanced level ballet classes with 1-2 beginning/intermediate pointe classes and at least 2 electives.

Open Division

A student may continue his or her progress in the study and enjoyment of ballet and other dance forms for several years without the pressure and time commitment that are required for the Pro Prep Division. Classes featured in the Open Division should be used as make-up classes for Professional Prep students.
  • Open Ballet I - Intermediate/advanced level

  • Open Ballet II - Teen/adult beginner/intermediate level
  • Beginning Pointe - Students are placed with faculty recommendation and are required to take 2 or more additional classes.

  • Electives - Electives include modern dance, jazz and hiphop. Each student must take at least one ballet class to take any elective.

Electives

At ASB, we feel that by gaining knowledge of different dance forms, it will expand the artistic understanding and sense. It will also help in the future of a professionally oriented student.
