Introductory Classical Division

Pre-Ballet
Students from the age of 4 who have had little or no previous dance
related study. Instruction is designed to gently introduce stretching,
rhythmic
exercises and easy ballet steps for children to learn to enjoy
dancing. 1-2
classes recommended
Pre-Ballet Levels 1, 2, 3
Students develop
musicality and coordination. They also learn stretching and strength-building
exercises. At the end of Ballet 3, the student will be prepared
for continuation in the open program or will be accepted into
the Professional Prep Division (Levels 4-8)
Professional Prep Division

Five progressive levels
of achievement are designed to gradually increase the dancer’s
technique and stamina in accordance with their physical and
emotional development. All new
students must audition for placement in this program. Progress
reports are given to each pro-prep student twice a year.
Students
are required to take the recommended number of classes, according
to level.

Ballet 4 2-3 Pre-intermediate
level ballet classes with one choice of elective and optional pre-pointe
class.

Ballet 5 3-4 Intermediate
level ballet classes with 1 or
2 beginning pointe class(es) and choice of one elective. Minimum
4 classes and at least 1 elective.

Ballet 6 3-5 Pre-advanced
level ballet classes with 1-2 beginning/intermediate
pointe classes and at least 2 electives.
Ballet 7 3-5 Advanced level with 2-3 intermediate/advanced
pointe classes and at least 2 electives.

Ballet 8 4-5 Advanced level ballet classes
with 2-3 advanced pointe classes and at least 2 electives.
Open Division
A student may continue his or her progress in the study and enjoyment
of ballet and other dance forms for several years without the pressure
and time
commitment that are required for the Pro Prep Division. Classes featured
in the Open Division should be used as make-up classes for Professional
Prep students.

Teen/adult beginner/intermediate level

Beginning Pointe - Students are placed with faculty
recommendation and are required to take 2 or more additional classes.

Electives - Electives
include modern dance, jazz and hiphop. Each student must
take at least one ballet class to take any elective.
Electives
At ASB, we feel that by gaining knowledge of different dance forms, it will expand the artistic understanding and sense. It will also help in the future of a professionally oriented student.
